Carbon footprint

Worried about its environmental impact, ALTEN realized its Carbon footprint

The results are 5.6 Tons amount carbon equivalent per employee.

ALTEN’s CO2 emissions are equivalent to the annual emissions of a city of 5390 inhabitants. The results gave rise to an action plan to reduce the main sources of CO2 emissions:

 

Computer equipment

The Group took number of measures to optimize its park of equipments and limit its impact on the environment:

 

Dematerialisation of documents and paper saving

ALTEN implements specific methods to reduce the printing of documents and, thus the consumption of paper, consumables and energy:

 

Professional business trip

The group tries to limit the environmental consequences of the movements of his(her) co-workers and, to do it, elaborated a politics(policy) journeys inciting to choose the ways of more environment-friendly transportation.

Besides, ALTEN chose to equip all sites of systems of video conference to limit the needs of movement.

Aware that the significant amount of travel of its employees ALTEN prepared a travel policy that encourages modes of transport that have less impact on the environment. ALTEN also chose to equip all of its sites with videoconference systems in order to reduce the need for travelling.

 

Improvement of premises

Various initiatives to help reduce the energy consumption of buildings were implemented, such as the installation of motion sensors for lighting, the use of compact fluorescent lamps, preventive maintenance of heating and air conditioning systems and so on.

For the choice of its future premises, ALTEN already elaborated construction specifications within a framework of environmental and social criteria. This responsible purchasing policy will noticeably and sustainably improve the environmental inventory of buildings used by the Group's companies.

As an example, the new building of the south-west regional office, which will be ready in 2011, will be "NF Bâtiments Tertiaires - Démarche HQE* certified, comprising 2500 m² over three levels, will in time replace the current office in Labège and accommodate the 140 employees of ALTEN SO, MI-GSO and ANOTECH. This is not about regulations, nor standards, but is a voluntary management approach on the part of ALTEN. It aims in particular to control the impact of construction on the external environment and to create a comfortable and healthy interior environment.

Limitation and management of waste

The ALTEN Group is implementing a recycling programme for its waste. It complies with regulations regarding the recycling of computing and electronic equipments and confides the recycling of ink cartridges and toners to approved firms.
