ALTEN in the energy and life sciences sector

Positioning

Our societies are facing a major increase in energy demand due to changing demographics and technological progress.

Types of energy production available to meet demand:

  • Fossil fuels (oil and gas, coal)
  • Nuclear power
  • Renewables (water, wind, solar, geothermal).

Along with the technological challenges of increasing energy efficiency, the energy industry itself is changing as it seeks to find alternatives to our dwindling reserves of fossil fuels and reduce CO2 emissions to promote sustainable development.

ALTEN partners with clients on their energy projects, providing a range of support services from engineering to manufacturing and infrastructure installation.

Some of our current projects :

  • Design and manufacture of new-generation EPR nuclear power plants
  • Design of FPSO and FLNG infrastructure to capture and process oil and gas in deep water
  • Development of uranium extraction infrastructure
  • Development and installation of wind farms
  • Design of biomass power plants
  • Design of hydroelectric dams.

These activities require a wide range of expertise, from engineering knowledge (civil engineering, structural design, electricity, instrumentation, rotating machines, piping, etc.) to project management skills (project control, planning, cost control, etc.), knowledge of purchasing and shipping, and operational know-how (commissioning, maintenance, operation, etc.).

Clients throughout the industry :

  • Contractors: TOTAL, EDF, GDF SUEZ, etc.
  • Engineering firms: TECHNIP, SAIPEM, AREVA, ALSTOM, etc.
  • Equipment manufacturers: SCHLUMBERGER, AIR LIQUIDE, etc.

Environmental concerns are high priority for industry today. Renewable energy sources will help to replace fossil fuels, but to protect the future of our planet, innovative waste treatment and recovery solutions need to be developed and deployed.

ALTEN's experience with the energy sector is directly relevant to environmental engineering projects, and many of the same areas of expertise are critical to ongoing endeavours to optimise industry's carbon footprint, protect water resources and secure the future of the planet.
