ALTEN in the rail sector

Positioning

Over the last few years, rail transport has emerged as one of the best ways to solve the problem of transporting goods and people while promoting sustainable development and protecting the environment.

ALTEN is working on many international projects in technologically progressive fields :

  • Modernisation of rolling stock to provide passengers with more comfort and services
  • Development and commissioning of new equipment
  • Opening of new lines, primarily for high speed services and light rail systems in major cities
  • Modernisation of stations and development of new services (ticketing, customer relations, WiFi networks, etc.)
  • Development of interoperable rail signalling across Europe.

Rail transport is an increasingly important component of urban development plans and architectural projects.

The rail sector has highly varied engineering needs: civil engineering for work on station infrastructure, mechanical and electrical engineering to optimise the structure and layout of locomotives and passenger trains, telecom and embedded data processing expertise to share and process signalling data, IT know-how to process information and develop user interfaces (web, station kiosks) for improved customer relations, etc.

ALTEN helps the leading developers of rail products and infrastructure (rolling stock manufacturers, equipment manufacturers, network operators) to meet their objectives, providing local support near their R&D centres both in France (Paris area, Lyon, East and North regions) and internationally, particularly in Spain (Madrid, Barcelona), Italy (Turin), Belgium and Germany.
