Personal
development with ALTEN...
|
|
 |
The
ALTEN spirit, it's above all
The ALTEN spirit, it's above all living ones passion
for the technology which defines the age.
That spirit is the founding principle of the operational
structure at ALTEN. It is what, from the moment you
join, gives you the benefit of a dual management structure
(technical and commercial), gives you the freedom
to make your own path, to expand your horizons through
geographic mobility, to adapt your path at any time
and to build and share your professional skills.
.
Your integration : to adopt the ALTEN spirit
From your first interview, your first contact is your
Agency Manager, because it is important when building
a company to choose the people with whom one will build
and share ones professional development.
Together you will find, among more than a hundred projects
available at any time with ALTEN, the one which meets
your expectations and fits your chosen career path.
This is when the Business Manager responsible for the
project gets involved. Having a perfect understanding
of the client's expectations and requirements, through
working in partnership with them, he or she will know
how best to ensure the success of the project.
Day-to-Day
: project status reviews with your Business Manager
will drive your project, regular reviews with your
Agency Manager and meeting points between Engineers
and Consultants (meetings and technical conferences;
sports, social and cultural activities)
.

| Create
your own Career Path |
|
 |
By
virtue of the wealth and scale of its activities,
the Group offers a great many opportunities. The diversity
of these can match the skills and aspirations of everyone.
Each career path is personalised and discussed with
the Agency Manager, using as a reference the Alten
Careers Reference Manual, a tool to help you navigate
through your career.
Annually, as part of your appraisal, you review your
results, set your objectives for the coming year and
define a training plan.
The
Reference Manual is split into 3 main branches :
- Technical
- Commercial Management
- Administration, accounting, communications and HR
The Technical branch comprises five strands :
- Research and Development (development engineer, designer,
integrator)
- Design (Design Engineer, Computation, Simulation,
Testing)
- Production (Process, Manufacturing, Production, Industrialisation)
- Methodology (QA Engineer, Methodology)
- Operations and Support (Support Engineer, DBA, Systems
and Networks, Deployment)
The first sort of career development available is to
change market sector, or learn new skills by working
on different projects.
Within each strand you can choose to develop in three
ways :
- Expertise (Technical Expert)
- Managerial (Project Manager, Project Director)
- Consultancy (Systems Architect, Consultant)
An engineer may develop equally along each of these
tracks, depending upon experience gained and the cultural
and professional diversity that he or she wishes to
have in their career. At any level it is possible to
continue along the same track, or to develop along a
new one, or even to change strand or branch.
For example an engineer may develop from the Technical
track towards the Managerial or Consultancy track.
The Commercial Management branch comprises :
- Business Manager
- Agency Manager
- Agency Director
- Departmental Director, Director of subsidiaries
The first role in this career path is that of the Account
Manager, responsible for developing and maintaining
a portfolio of large accounts, and managing a technical
team.
There is a rapid development towards a management role
as Agency Manager, taking on sole responsibility for
a profit centre, including the recruitment and management
of a team of technicians.
These responsibilities will grow towards the management
of sales teams as you progress to Agency Director and
then Departmental or Subsidiary Director.
In the year 2000, as part of a 35% growth in turnover,
more than 40 Directors posts were created.
|
|
| At
all job levels, there are many opportunities available |
|
 |
Adapt
your career path.
At any moment in your career you may wish to change
your personal development strand, for example from
being a Design Engineer to a QA Engineer. Your Agency
Manager will support your aspirations with a training
and development plan to help you achieve them.
You may also develop towards the Commercial Management
branch.
There are numerous platforms, which, at any level
in your technical development, allow you to fill the
role of Business Manager.
Hence, every year more than a third of our new Agency
Managers are former Technicians.

| Develop
and share your professional skills |
|
 |
ALTEN offers three types of training :
- Training in technologies that you will be using
on a project, to bring your skills up to date
or to overcome a particular issue
- Ongoing training from ALTEN University delivered
by the Technical Management team. This will enable
you to keep up to date with the latest issues and
innovations. You could also gain basic managerial
skills through project management training.
- Commercial Management training, the first
part of which takes over two months and is given to
all those who join the Commercial branch. Training
