ALTEN Contributes to ISTQB®’s New Syllabus on “Testing with Generative AI”
Supporting International Software Quality Standards

ALTEN is pleased to share news of its involvement in the development of the International Software Testing Qualifications Board’s (ISTQB®) latest Certified Tester Specialist Level Syllabus—Testing with Generative AI (CT-GenAI). Now validated and released, this syllabus offers a structured approach to the integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in software testing and is available for professionals worldwide as a basis for certification of competences.
Advancing Industry Standards in Software Testing
The CT-GenAI syllabus establishes a comprehensive knowledge base designed to guide software testers as they encounter the new opportunities and challenges presented by Generative AI. The release is a step forward for the industry, providing practical resources for those involved in quality assurance and software development.
ALTEN’s Involvement
ALTEN is since many years a Global Partner of ISTQB® as well as an Accredited Training Provider; we are particularly proud to have contributed significantly to the creation of this new syllabus. Of the five global authors, two are ALTEN experts, including Alessandro Collino from ALTEN Italy, who played a key role in developing the contents. This collaboration reflects ALTEN’s ongoing commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancement and supporting best practices in software quality.
About the CT-GenAI Syllabus
The syllabus addresses several important areas for professionals interested in Generative AI and software testing, including:
- Foundations of Generative AI: Key concepts and architecture.
- Prompt Engineering: Techniques for effective interaction with AI models during testing.
- Risk Management and Ethics: Guidance on identifying and addressing challenges related to AI in testing contexts.
- LLM-Powered Test Infrastructure: Approaches to using large language models to improve testing environments.
- Deployment and Practical Application: Strategies for integrating Generative AI in real-world software testing scenarios.
CT-GenAI is highly practical: over 50% of the learning is hands-on. The syllabus is intended to help professionals develop the knowledge and skills required to use Generative AI technologies responsibly and effectively throughout the software development lifecycle.
ALTEN Initiatives
ALTEN companies acting as ISTQB® accredited training providers will soon offer courses globally. The CT-GenAI syllabus will also serve as the foundation for training our test experts across the Group’s Quality Engineering Centers of Excellence (COEs).
To support both internal adoption and training offered to customers, trainers have already been prepared in several countries, including ALTEN in France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and Spain. This anticipation will help our projects and our customers to accelerate the adoption of AI-driven testing practices.
Looking Ahead
With the release of the CT-GenAI syllabus, ISTQB® aims to support the professional development of software testers and encourage the adoption of innovative AI-driven testing practices. ALTEN remains committed in its Global Partnership with ISTQB® and is working with partners such as Smartesting to ensure the relevant training is available.
Professionals working in software testing or organisations looking to improve their quality assurance capabilities may find this syllabus a valuable new resource.
