TRENDS
Space-based technologies

The expansion of space technologies has paved the way for new markets and applications. Satellite imagery, for instance, has become an essential tool across various industries, including agriculture, environmental monitoring, and urban planning. Satellite-based high-speed internet access has helped bridge the digital divide by reaching people in remote or underserved areas. These advancements highlight the growing impact of space technologies on our daily lives and the creation of new business opportunities. However, they also raise important concerns regarding privacy, security and the responsible use of technology.

TRENDS
New Space

Over the past two decades, significant changes have made it easier and less expensive to access and utilize space. This shift has catalyzed the growth of a burgeoning private space industry, previously dominated by government agencies. Companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin, before referred to as “New Space” companies, are now pioneering commercial space travel. These privately funded entities focus on innovative technologies and business models, significantly reducing the costs of space exploration and expanding access to space for both commercial and non-commercial endeavors.
New Space activities span a broad spectrum, including satellite launches, providing space-based services such as Earth observation and communications, developing new technologies like reusable rockets and spacecraft, and even planning crewed missions to the Moon and Mars.
It promises to continue unlocking new opportunities for scientific research, commercial applications, and space tourism. However, it also raises critical issues concerning space governance and the ethical implications of private companies owning and operating space assets.
