To turn the demands of sporting performance into tangible solutions, ALTEN is putting its expertise at the service of the Zephir Project. The goal: optimise every detail to push the limits of speed in windsurfing.
What are the technological innovations in sport?
Digital Simulation and 3D Modelling: ALTEN uses digital mini wind tunnels to virtually test hundreds of configurations. By analysing air and water flows over foils, sails, and boards, ALTEN minimises drag and maximises lift. This approach directly benefits athletes by providing equipment optimised for their performance.
Composite Materials and Lightweight Structures: ALTEN draws inspiration from biomimicry to develop anti-friction coatings, reducing water resistance. Athletes thus gain access to faster, more manoeuvrable boards. In parallel, ALTEN also uses hybrid materials (carbon fibre, epoxy resin, etc.) to enhance lightness and durability through an eco-design approach.

- Accelerate development cycles: where designing a wing could take several years, 3D modelling now allows hundreds of variants to be tested in just a few months.

The composite materials and honeycomb structures designed for the sea are finding direct applications in aeronautics. By adapting them to aircraft fuselages, ALTEN enables:
- Reduced aircraft weight: a lighter fuselage means lower fuel consumption and increased range.
- Enhanced durability: honeycomb structures, inspired by competitive sails, improve resistance to mechanical stress and extend aircraft lifespan.
- Lower operating costs: less weight also means less fuel burned and a reduced carbon footprint.
