Women & Science: How to Break Stereotypes?

Women & Science: How to Break Stereotypes?

As every year for nearly 10 years, ALTEN launches an international communication campaign on the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day. The goal is to raise awareness and encourage women to pursue careers in science. This initiative is part of the Group’s ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and encourage women to join technical and scientific fields.

Too often, women face deeply rooted prejudices. According to a study conducted in March 2024 by the association Elles Bougent, more than 60% of women have heard the claim that “literary studies suit them better.” More than one in four women has also been told that “girls are less competent in mathematics than boys.” These stereotypes persist despite the many initiatives designed to dismantle them. They continue to hinder women’s access to scientific and technical disciplines.

A Campaign to Challenge Prejudices

In 2025, ALTEN decided to take action by highlighting the inspiring careers of women engineers through a series of video testimonials. These women, from diverse countries, cultures, and areas of expertise, share their experiences and react to the stereotypes they have encountered. The campaign has two main objectives: first, to demonstrate that women have a rightful place in science and technology; and second, to encourage young girls to pursue their ambitions without being limited by preconceived notions.

A Strong Commitment to Gender Diversity

By actively engaging in this campaign, ALTEN reaffirms its commitment to equal opportunities and diversity in scientific careers. The company aims to help shift mindsets and promote better representation of women in industries still heavily marked by gender disparities.

Through this initiative, ALTEN hopes to inspire a new generation of women scientists and remind everyone that passion and skills have no gender.
